Today's Landmark of the day is a weekly show in Lummerland. It's called Show and Tell and it's sooooo much fun!! Every Sunday at 2 PM SLT people gather at the dock at Lummerland to watch content creators exhibit their newest or favorite creation. Anyone is welcome to show, just arrived early enough to get on the list. Here's a notecard from Barney Boomslang explaining all the details of how it works!
Welcome to the Show-and-Tell in Avaria! (These photos are from the past location in Lummerland..however this SLurl has been updated in the link above.)
We meet here in North Lummerland every Sunday at 2 PM for a friendly little contest between builders. But this event is not just for builders - it's as much for people who are interested what is done in SL. This event was formerly held by Zonax Delorian at PrimWorx and since October 2006, Florenze Kerensky and Barney Boomslang host it. Since December 2007 we are in Lummerland after over a year in the sim Yongnam - we just packed too many people regularily for a mainland sim.
All levels of experience are invited to come and present their works. Bring new builds you made, bring half-finished things you have questions about, or digg out something old from your inventory you want to share with people. Only restriction is: it must be made by yourself, not bought, found or done by some friend. It must be yours (parts can be used from others, of course - for example scripts in vehicles or animations in furniture).
It's even interesting for experienced builders: share what you've learned, and maybe even learn from the fresh perspective of a newbie :-) (and hey, it's just plain fun to see what others come up with and get ideas on what to do next!).
The event itself runs as follows: up to 9 presenters contact Flo or Barney at the start of the event to enter their piece. One after the other is called up to the stage to present it and talk about it some - what the problems were, where the ideas point ed to and maybe what didn't turn out the way as originally planned, new techniques developed, whatever interesting is to share about the piece.
After all presenters showed their pieces, the audience will vote on the best builds - everyone gets three votes (neither Flo nor Barney vote, the votes themselves are tallied by the board) in order of preference of the pieces. When the voting is closed, the board calculates the ranking of the pieces according to votes.
The top places will be announced and get some L$ prizes - actually everyone gets some little L$ prize just for showing. The prizes are based on donations of the audience into the show-and-tell tipjar - and the tipjar will be at least 500 L$ each week (usually much more).
During the event make sure to start your music control - we run Radio Boomslang on the show-and-tell parcel, which runs lots of Creative-Commons licensed music. After the show we usually stick around for a little after-show party and some chat about things presented.
So if you are a builder or interested in building, just want to see what others come up with to get new ideas or just enjoy the crazy stuff and hang out with a fun and friendly crowd - come over to Lummerland every Sunday 2 PM!
A tip for presenters: please come early and rez your things on the beach. That way for presentation you only need to push it over - and it might allready be rezzed for the audience. And to make sure we have a pic to put on the board, you can bring a snapshot you took yourself inworld. Usually we use our own snapshots, but sometimes uploading doesn't work. And if you have things you want to pass out to the audience, you can rez it on the boardwalk beside the show-and-tell stage.
PS: sometimes we have to go to an alternative place for show-and-tell - for example when the grid acts weird and Lummerland doesn't work nicely. We have an alternative stage in the sim Yongnam (Barney's old home sim) for show-and-tell. We will put out redirecters and landmark givers at the original place if that is the case.
PPS: Flo now has a blog on show-and-tell: http://flo-votes.blogspot.com/ - go there to see what was presented and what won. And what Flo favoured :) You can also see pictures from past Show and Tells at http://picasaweb.google.com/florenze.k
