China, China West and the Hipic Project

China sim in Second Life

You've most lilkely seen or heard about the minimalist "sandbox" in the sky over the sim called China. If you haven't it's quite something. A giant canvas in the sky where aston Leisen has created a very beautiful scene. Mountains in the distance, light whispy clouds overhead and clusters of bamboo trees. Sometimes there is a hut, sometimes there are other objects. There's a calm peace to this location.

Andrew Wyeth Memorial Park-Be the art!

Jenn as Christina at Andrew Wyeth Memorial Park in Second LifeAndrew Wyeth was one of the first artists for me, in my memory, that actually put me in the painting. I was a little girl, probably 5 or 6 years old, and we had print of Christina's World above an old green chest where we kept candles and placemats. I remember getting the fancy placemats out of the chest of drawers, and wondering about Christina. How old was she? Was she sad? Did she live in that house, or want to live there? Did the grass tickle her arms as it blew in the breeze?

Patron and Patron Wilds-"An enigmatic place that's orientated to enjoyment"

Patron, by it's very nature is a place you'll want to explore. Not only are the art displays, architechture and surrounding gardens beautiful, but they are also a place to find solitude and contemplate. Along the way you'll surely find many of the treasures that, creator, Eliza Wierwight spends her time there building.

mushROOM by Scottius Polke

Jenn Hienrichs entering the mushROOM

You may be familiar with Scottius Polke's work in-world. Up to this point, most of his work has included scripted three dimensional works. His imagination always explodes in prim form and the viewer usually can sense this otter has a very vivid imagination.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights by Charlotte Bartlett

Charlotte Bartlett has just opened her new exhibit "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" (SLurl) at the sim Poetik velvets (video). Nur Moo has graciously provided the space, as she did with Hotel Dare, in order to keep experiential art installations in Second Life alive and well looked after! This installation is just that, experiential, however more than experiencing it, you're also reminded or learning about the 30 articles of the The Universal Declaration of Human Rights a 60 year old UN document which urged all Member Countries to publicize and disseminate the text.

Survivors of Suicide Art Exhibit

My friend, Krissy Sinclair is a wonderful artist. Not only do her works evoke emotions, awe and thought, but her newest work has brought forth a community. Survivors of Suicide, in world, is an immersive tool/exhibit designed to educate and support those who have been touched by the devastating effects of suicide. Her gallery is two-fold. Krissy states it best in her notecard:

Wandering Spirits--Robots, Art, and More (oh my!)

When writing up Landmarks of the Day, I am usually struck by a particular aspect of a sim. Whether it's the art, the gardens, the theme, or the landscaping, usually one thing clearly stands out to make me realize "THIS is going to be a LM of the Day!" Well today's LM of the Day, Wandering Spirits, is a little different. I can't quite put my finger on why I want to feature this sim, but the more I explored the place, the more I wanted to share it with you all!

Frank Lloyd Wright Museum of SL

One of America's greatest architects is being honored in Second Life. Not just randomly and occasionally, but today a new museum opens in homage to Frank Lloyd Wright. At the Frank Lloyd Wright Museum of SL, you'll not only be able to see photographs of his houses displayed in chronological order on the roof of a building inspired by his works, but also go inside replicas of some of his more famous houses. Along the way you'll find teleporters that will take you from place to place that is highlighted, but I found it very delightful to walk around the sim and explore that way.

Rabbicorn--Immersive Story by Bryn Oh

Every once in a while, I come across a story that touches my soul. Today, I have been touched! Bryn Oh's Rabbicorn story is the culprit! Thanks to Stella Merlin for reminding me to go visit this great installation and immersive story. Once there I was met by my friend, Bryn Oh, the creator herself, and given a brief background on the story and how she arrives with such creations. Most of her creations are story based, a much needed piece to art within this envirnoment in my opinion.

Dakota Skies Gallery & Sculpture Garden

Recently, I wandered over to Dakota Dreamscape's new gallery, Dakota Skies Gallery and Sculpture Garden, with my friend Zachh. I have always been curious about how gallery owners find artists or how artists find gallery owners. I think Second
